» Oriental Rugs

By China at 3:04 PM

My grandma just redid her whole house. It used to be more old fashion and worn out (probably from 5 sons and 10 grandchildren). But one by one her and my grandpa redecorated each room. They picked out a color palate and got new curtains and sheets for the 2 guest bedrooms and painted the walls in every room. They even redid both of the bathrooms which we still call the pink and the blue bathrooms (even though now they are tan and green).

The project started off as a 50th wedding anniversary present for each other. If anyone deserved a home makeover, it was my grandparents. They are the cutest people and they have been married for so long and are so caring and I can honestly say that I have never once seen them fight. They just get along so perfectly and I love that they are happy and doing this together for themselves, because they are always doing things for other people.

So after the finished the 3 bedrooms (including buying themselves a new water bed!) and the 2 bathrooms on the first floor, they moved to the living room, kitchen and dining room. The three rooms flow from one to the other and are somewhat connected so they made it a more neutral theme with black wood and cream and then dark red accent colors. It really is amazingly beautiful when you walk in. Then they used Oriental rugs in the hallways attaching them in a gold and maroon/dark red color to bring it all together. The wood is amazing, it is a black wood color and the cabinets were all redone as well as all of the wood finishing's and hardware to match it. The Oriental rug in between each room really ties in the whole theme to the neutral color. They went really bold on the accent color so the black and cream make it look really smooth and natural.

Overall they put a lot of time and money into and when we asked them at their 50th wedding anniversary party if they thought it was worth all of the effort and resources, they just smiled and said it was something they had always wanted to do together. It was the cutest thing and that's when I realized that it was about way more than decorating a house, it was making a home for them together.
